No More
Booklets
Time has moved on
and I have decided to stop printing the booklets from now on.
BUT, I will still be doing Dogwalks - on the Internet.
I have found that the printing costs were too high and sales too slow to
warrant producing Booklet #5.
And the schlepp of distributing it at over 120 outlets in Gauteng was too
onerous, now that I have become involved in a few other projects
as well.
It has also been 4 years since I started Dogwalk and the early walks need
revisiting and updating.
And, I have been receiving requests from dogwalkers in Durban and Cape
Town for walks down there.
So, reviewing all my options, I have decided to make Dogwalk a purely
Internet-Based operation.

Pickle - My
Chief
Researcher
Pickle is my 4.5 year old broken
coat Jack Russell Terrier. That's him on the cover to the left.
He is nowhere near pure bred - he comes from a farm in Zimbabwe.

Walks in
Joburg
TJ De Klerk was one
of the people who helped with the rehabilitation of The Wilds in
Houghton. He now sends out a weekly list of where to walk in
Gauteng.
Send him an e-mail to get onto the list and start walking.
Below is a list of the regular walks.
-
Sandspruit:
Every Sunday
morning at 8am. Meet at 126 Kelvin Drive (opposite Gary
Ave). There is no charge, but book
with Judith or Rick: 011 802 2685. The walk
is suitable for fairly fit adults, teenagers, kids
& socialized dogs.
They walk 2-2½ hours along the
river, viewing birds, picking up litter &
removing invasive plants. Bring
water, a hat, rain gear
& good walking shoes that can get wet
from the grass! See
sandspruit.htm for pictures & map.
Updates
Over time, things
change and several of the walks have changed too. Here is a list
as I find out about them:
-
Creek 9
(Booklet 2): Walk Withdrawn as it has become too dangerous
for dogs and owners to walk here.
-
Little Falls
Ridge (Booklet 2): A palisade fence has been erected along
the housing so you can't park in Malachite Street anymore.
-
Parkhurst
(Booklet 1): A lovely new bridge has been built where you
used to have to leap across the Spruit at the bottom of 12th
Street.
-
Irene
(Booklet 3): Accommodation at Smut's House is no longer dog
friendly.
-
Otters Haunt
(Booklet 2&3): No longer accepts large or dangerous dogs
after the owner was badly bitten.
-
Waverley
River Walk (Booklet 2): After a couple of years of digging
and construction, this walk has now been rehabilitated and is
suitable for walks again.
-
Kommando Nek
/ Lincolnshire Lodge (Booklet 3): The owners have sold the
lodge and it is not being run as a lodge anymore, so you can't
park there for the walk. I am currently investigating an
alternative parking place.
-
Kaia Thandi (Booklet 3): Closed in December 04.
-
Keenan's
Creek (Booklet 3): Has changed it's name to Saamrus.
