Constantia Kloof

A neat walk that gets the heart pumping, has some stunning views and has a calming return through a pleasant suburban street.

Directions: Turn into Reinette Drive from Golf Club Terrace Road.

Dog Friendliness: Technically all dogs should be on lead. Watch out for barking dogs from neighbouring properties. You will need your lead for the walk back through the suburban streets.

Walk Time: About 1 hour.

Parking: On-street parking in Reinette Drive - a quiet suburban street.

Safety: Take the usual precautions - don't walk alone as there are some people living on the lower stretches near the Hypermarket and in the valley on the northern section. Residents said it was pretty safe in the streets and the park.

Facilities: Some litter bins in the picnic area.

Water: Small stream that seems OK.

The Walk: Walk down the valley along the concrete path. Follow the path for about 1 km until you reach the picnic area at the bottom. The concrete path ends at a palisade fence and you have to turn left (north) and cross the stream onto a dirt path. This path takes you alongside the fence for about 100 m then swings diagonally up the hill where you walk parallel to the fence. It eventually forks - take the left hand fork and continue working your way towards the east (the Hypermarket). Ignore the paths to your left that lead straight up the hill.

After about 500 m you will reach an intersection of several paths. Continue straight ahead to the left of the small koppie in front of you. At the koppie look for a large path leading left back up a valley with cliffs on the northern side. Follow this path up the valley.

Near the top of the valley, the path becomes indistinct as the soil has been washed away and you can see Golf Club Terrace Road ahead. Look for a distinct path to the left that heads up the hill to the top of ridge. This path leads you to a small saddle. At the saddle, turn right and walk up the ridge towards a house that is built on top.

Follow the path around to the right of the house. Put you dog on a lead just before you reach Golf Club Terrace Road. Turn left on the road and walk along the sidewalk until you reach Reinette Drive on your left. Follow Reinette Drive back to your car.

Watch Out For: Rubbish and broken glass at the picnic site.
